Example of a Drill:  (Starts as a drill becomes a game like scenario)

  • Start with a catch and shoot
  • Add a defender to close out to contest shot
  • Add one dribble to create separation from defender and shooting off a dribble
  • Add a pump fake into the routine and then shoot off the dribble
  • Defender closes out: Shooters choice-catch and shoot, pump fake and shoot off the dribble, shoot off the dribble or pump fake into a layup
  • During the drill also instructing proper close-out, knowing the offensive player skill set and attacking accordingly
  • Add a second offensive player to pass to for a catch and shoot
  • Eventually, add a second defender
  • Consistently adding players till we get to a 5 vs. 5 scenario

Game-like scenario Segment

  • Players will be coached during this segment
  • Players need game like situations to improve skills and IQ
  • We will utilize the scoreboards to create game-like situations and the players and coaches work together to "run through" the situations
  • Players will be able to play out countless game situations from jump ball to final possessions

Scrimmages:

  • Players will have play scrimmages and have varying focuses weekly based upon need.
  • Defense and transition will be a focus in every scrimmage
  • Scrimmages encourage players to work on things they may not do in a formal game (But aspire to through these opportunities)
  • These scrimmages are NOT coached
  • Music is on during the scrimmages to set the right atmosphere
